The Basel Convention on the Control of Transboundary Movements of Hazardous Wastes and Their Disposal, otherwise known as the Basel Convention, was put in place in May 1992. The treaty, currently signed by 176 nations (the U.S., Haiti and Afghanistan have not yet ratified it), is aimed at reducing hazardous waste movement between countries, and more specifically, from developed countries to less developed countries.TBR believes that as government regulations on proper waste management increase around the globe, so will attention to and investments in the proper disposal of e-waste and use of second-hand electronics.
A change has taken hold in the IT industry: Whereas companies once focused mainly on compliance with environmental regulation, many are now actively positioning themselves as models of sustainability and purveyors of green technology.
