Oceano Finds Perfect Match in LeisureLink.

CHALLENGE Boutique Breaking into an Established Market

Oceano Hotel and Spa is a boutique, independently owned property located on Half Moon Bay, 25 miles south of San Francisco. Voted the number one wedding venue on the coast by the 2010 Baylist, the Oceano caters primarily to couples on the weekends and corporate guests during the week. The hotel is known for its proximity to both the beach and the town: visitors can park their car for the duration of their stay and walk to restaurants, bars, and activity locations. The Oceano doesn’t charge resort fees, and many services, including parking and WiFi, are included free of charge.

As a relatively new destination, the Oceano faced intense competition from more established nearby properties, including a four-star resort just south of the hotel. “When we opened, we needed to get our name out there and sell rooms,” said Seidler. Competing on rates and rate management also proved challenging due to the property’s small size. “We’re only a 106-room property, and there was really no way to efficiently manage rates on a daily basis.”
