Has fitness been a priority in your hotel?  With the prevailing awareness of adult obesity and the need for healthier lifestyles, business travelers are looking more and more towards hotels with available fitness facilities. With sites like athleticmindedtraveler.com and hotelgymreview.com rating hotels exclusively on the healthy-lifestyle options, a fitness center is no longer simply one more amenity.

Recently, Sheraton Hotels & Resorts Worldwide invested US$120 million globally in fitness centers and the development of custom fitness programs for guests. The Sheraton Fitness Program by Core Performance. The goal is to have the program in place in 130 locations by the end of 2010, and to have the full feature available in all Sheraton Hotels by the end of 2011. The program includes access to fitness centers, in-room workout programs available through Video On Demand, and developed fitness programs the guest can access online even after their stay. Consulting nutritionists worked with Sheraton to develop a redesigned menu with healthy options in restaurants and for in-room dining.

Few hoteliers will have the option to engage in such an epic undertaking. However that doesn’t mean fitness can’t be a priority.  Companies like TRUE Fitness and Hotel Fitness Club offer in-room equipment as an alternative to full exercise rooms.  Or, like the Crown Plaza Copenhagen Towers, it’s also possible to make the gym—not to mention the guests—work for you.
